Privacy Policy

How your information is handled when you study, write, and stay organized with Obils.

Last updated:

1. About this policy

This policy explains how Obils handles personal information when you visit our website, create an account, or use our study tools. It covers information collected directly from you, through your use of the service, and from services you choose to connect.

For questions about privacy or your information, contact [email protected].

2. Information we collect

The information we handle depends on the features you use.

  • Account and profile details: your name, email address, university or school, phone number, and any profile photo you provide. When you use email signup, your password is stored as a hash rather than as readable text.
  • Google sign-in details: the profile information Google shares for authentication, such as your name, email address, and profile photo, together with account-linking information. Google sign-in does not give Obils your Google password.
  • Study content: notes, assignments, subjects, deadlines, files, and text submitted to a writing or analysis tool. This may include personal information if you choose to put it in your content.
  • Account activity: usage counts, word balances, focus sessions, notification read status, notification preferences, and the timezone detected by your browser for reminders.
  • Billing records: customer and subscription identifiers, selected plans, transactions, purchased word packs, and payment or refund status supplied by Paddle.
  • Technical and support information: session information, IP addresses and browser information associated with authentication or server requests, and information you include when contacting support, including your name, email address, and messages when you use the contact form or open a support ticket.

3. How information is used

Obils uses information to create and secure accounts, provide study tools, save your content, manage subscriptions and word balances, process your requests, deliver reminders, and respond to support inquiries.

Profile details support account setup and personalization. A school name or phone number is required by the current signup and Google profile setup forms; without completing those required fields, you cannot finish those flows. Profile photo uploads are optional.

Technical information supports authentication, fraud and abuse prevention, troubleshooting, and service reliability. We also use records when needed to handle billing disputes or comply with applicable legal obligations.

4. Writing and AI tools

When you submit text to the Humanizer, that text and your selected writing instructions are sent to the external AI service configured to provide the result. The current Humanizer integration uses OpenRouter, which routes the request to the model provider configured for this service. Your account password and payment card details are not part of that writing request.

When you use the AI Assistant, your messages and the relevant notes, assignments, profile details, plan information or notification preferences needed to answer your question may be sent through OpenRouter to the configured model provider. The assistant retrieves only records belonging to your account. Creating or updating notes and assignments requires you to confirm the prepared draft.

Information included in your submitted text can therefore be processed by that provider. Its handling of requests, including retention or model-training practices, depends on the provider and the applicable service settings. This policy does not promise that every AI provider deletes requests immediately or excludes them from training.

Only submit content you are entitled to use and share. Avoid including passwords, payment details, or unnecessary sensitive information. AI output can be inaccurate and should be reviewed before use.

5. Services that receive information

Some features require other services to process information. These services may have their own privacy terms, particularly when you interact with them directly.

  • Google handles Google sign-in and shares the account information needed to authenticate you.
  • Google Analytics measures how visitors use Obils, such as which pages are viewed and how many people visit. It may receive cookie identifiers, a shortened IP address, and browser or device information. The admin area is not measured.
  • Google AdSense serves advertisements to users on the Free plan and may receive cookie identifiers, IP address, and browser or device information for that purpose. See the Advertising section.
  • Paddle handles checkout and subscription billing. Payment card entry takes place in Paddle checkout; the Obils application does not store full payment card numbers or card security codes.
  • The configured AI provider receives text and writing instructions when you request Humanizer processing.
  • Email delivery services process recipient addresses and message content for verification, security messages, and notifications you enable.
  • Hosting, database, and file-storage infrastructure process the information needed to operate Obils.

6. Cookies and browser storage

Obils uses authentication cookies to keep you signed in and maintain your session. Browser storage also remembers appearance preferences such as theme, font size, and color palette.

You can manage cookies and stored data through your browser. Blocking or clearing authentication cookies may sign you out or prevent account features from working. Clearing local preferences may reset your display settings. External services such as Google or Paddle may use their own cookies when you use their services.

Google Analytics cookies help us count visits and understand which pages are useful. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or by blocking cookies in your browser.

7. Advertising

Obils may show advertisements to users on the Free plan. Paid plans do not show advertisements or load the advertising script. Advertisements are served by Google AdSense.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to Obils and other sites on the Internet.

Serving advertisements can involve Google processing cookie identifiers, your IP address, and browser and device information. Where the law requires your consent, such as in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, a consent message lets you choose whether advertising cookies are used.

You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com, and learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info. Your study content is not used to choose which advertisements are shown.

8. Emails and notifications

Verification, password-reset, and account-security messages support access to your account. Optional notification emails are controlled separately in Settings.

You can enable or disable email and in-app notifications for assignment reminders, class reminders from your schedule, new features, and tips and learning content. Email is on by default for assignment reminders and new features, and off for tips. Disabling these emails does not disable necessary account-security messages.

Your browser timezone is detected and saved for reminder scheduling. You can choose your reminder hour in Settings.

9. Storage and retention

Saved account information and study content are stored to make them available when you return to Obils. You can remove individual notes, assignments, and uploaded files using the available controls. To delete your account, use Delete my account in Settings and confirm the email verification code. The flow removes your account and related study records, signs out your sessions, and verifies that subscription renewals have been stopped before deletion. Uploaded files are erased, with automatic retries if storage cleanup is temporarily unavailable. Account deletion does not automatically request a refund. For other personal-information requests or help with deletion, contact [email protected].

Retention depends on the type of information, whether your account remains active, the purpose for which the information is needed, and applicable legal or billing requirements. Transaction, security, support, or backup records may have different retention requirements from content visible in your account.

Deleting content in Obils does not by itself delete records held independently by Google, Paddle, an AI provider, or other external services. You may need to contact those services separately.

10. Security and processing locations

The application uses measures such as hashed passwords, authenticated access to account content, and verification of payment notifications. No method of storage or transmission can guarantee absolute security.

External providers may process information in locations different from where you live. Provider locations, retention practices, and any applicable transfer safeguards depend on the services used. Contact [email protected] if you need more information about the handling of your data.

11. Your choices and privacy requests

You can update your profile in Settings, manage notification preferences, and delete supported study content. Contact [email protected] to request access to, correction of, a copy of, or deletion of your personal information.

Depending on the laws that apply to you, you may also have rights to object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, or raise a complaint with your local data-protection authority. Turning off optional notification emails withdraws your choice to receive those messages.

We may need to verify that a request relates to your account before providing or changing personal information. Some information may need to be retained where applicable law or a legitimate billing or security requirement prevents immediate deletion.

12. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as Obils or its data practices change. The date at the top identifies the latest version. Material changes may also be communicated through the service or by email where appropriate.
